BMW and TVS Motor Company, an Indian motorcycle manufacturer, have a rich history stemming from their collaboration on the G 310 series of entry-level motorcycles. While these bikes are considered entry-level in the US and Europe, they hold a different status in the Asian market, where they are seen as machines for those looking to upgrade. This partnership now extends into the realm of electric motorcycles.

Let me introduce you to the BMW CE 02, a compact, low-power electric motorcycle primarily designed for urban mobility. The development of this new electric scooter is a joint effort between BMW and TVS Motor Company and it has recently commenced production at TVS' manufacturing facility near Chennai, India. Although it's not yet available in the Indian market, the initial production is intended for export to other regions where the model has been announced. For instance, in the United States, it's expected to hit the market with a starting retail price of $7,599.

From a technological standpoint, the BMW CE 02 is equipped with an electric motor capable of delivering a maximum output of 11 kilowatts, roughly equivalent to 15 horsepower. It generates a respectable 55 Newton-meters (44 pound-feet) of torque, which is likely to provide a more potent feeling, thanks to the continuous power delivery across the rev range. The CE 02 features a 2-kilowatt-hour battery pack, promising an estimated range of 56 miles on a single charge. In terms of features, it includes multiple ride modes, LED lighting, and a practical USB charging port for on-the-go convenience. Additionally, the bike boasts keyless ignition, a 3.5-inch full-color TFT display, standard ABS, and a useful reverse gear to facilitate parking in tight spaces. The CE 02 rides on 14-inch wheels equipped with front and rear tires sized at 120/80 and 150/70, respectively. The suspension system consists of inverted forks and an adjustable monoshock connected to a single-sided swingarm at the rear.

Upon its launch, the CE 02 is expected to offer a range of optional accessories, such as a comfort saddle, luggage sets, and a windscreen. Pricing and availability for the Indian market have not been officially confirmed yet, but it is anticipated to be introduced in limited quantities by 2024. Given that it's manufactured in India, it is likely to be considerably more affordable than its US starting price of $7,599.
