The New Audi A6 Avant: A glorious return of the Petrol-Powered beast

The New Audi A6 Avant: A glorious return of the Petrol-Powered beast

28 February 2025

Picture this: a world overrun by electric cars, where the hum of batteries has drowned out the growl of engines. And then, out of the blue, Audi rolls up with a new A6 Avant that – brace yourselves – doesn’t have a plug. Yep, while everyone else is faffing about with volts and watts, Audi’s gone and slapped a proper combustion engine under the bonnet. I’ll admit it: I’m a bit smitten, like finding a decent pint in a sea of craft IPAs.

We’ll get the official reveal on March 4th, but thanks to the internet’s inability to keep a secret, the first snaps are already doing the rounds. No electric nonsense here – just a sleek estate with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine pumping out 272 horsepower. Fancy more? There’s a 3.0-litre V6 with 340 horses on the way. That’s the kind of noise that rattles your ribcage, not some silent sci-fi whoosh you forget the moment you step out.

The looks? Classic Audi: sharp, posh, with a grille big enough to moonlight as a bus shelter. The Avant shape is still a stunner – practical without being dull, a rare trick in a world stuffed with bloated SUVs. Inside, it’s the usual Audi affair: a dashboard full of screens, leather that smells like money, and enough buttons to confuse a Boeing pilot. But let’s cut to the chase – it’s all about that engine. A proper two fingers to the green brigade, wrapped up in a premium package.

Is this a stroke of brilliance or a daft throwback? Audi’s betting there’s still a crowd who’d rather hear a throaty roar than a polite hum. And you know what? They might just be onto something. We’ll find out more on March 4th, but for now, I’ll raise a glass to their sheer cheek. The petrol engine lives on, and it’s cruising back in style. Cheers to that.
