Toyota's electric offensive

24 October 2023

Toyota, the renowned Japanese car manufacturer, is preparing for a significant electric vehicle (EV) offensive, despite not having made a major impact in the electric car market as of yet. At the recent Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, Toyota unveiled two promising concepts that shed light on its electric future: the EPU BEV Concept and the Land Cruiser SE Concept.

EPU BEV Concept: The Electric Pickup

Toyota's EPU BEV Concept is an electric pickup truck that could be seen as a potential sibling to the popular Hilux model. While detailed specifications are scarce, Toyota describes this vehicle as a blend of practicality and style, featuring a monocoque structure, a spacious double cab, and seating for up to five occupants. The concept car, showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, boasts dimensions of 5.07 meters in length, 1.91 meters in width, and 1.71 meters in height.

Land Cruiser SE Concept: The Electric Off-Roader

The Toyota Land Cruiser SE Concept represents an electric all-terrain vehicle that might soon join the ever-expanding Land Cruiser family. With a body measuring 5.15 meters in length, 1.99 meters in width, and 1.71 meters in height, this electric SUV draws design inspiration from earlier generations of the iconic off-roader. Revealed at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, the concept vehicle accommodates seven passengers.

While comprehensive technical details are yet to be disclosed, information on electric motors, performance metrics, battery specifications, range estimates, and charging capabilities is conspicuously absent from the announcements.

These exciting electric concepts underscore Toyota's commitment to electrifying its vehicle lineup and exploring the untapped potential of electric pickups and off-road SUVs. Although specific data is currently limited, these developments offer a glimpse into Toyota's promising electric future.
