While the rest of the car industry is still fiddling with buttons and touchscreens like it’s 2015, the Swedes have announced that every single one of their cars will get a proper AI co-driver next year. No more robotic voice that only understands you if you pronounce “navigate home” like a bored civil servant or “set temperature to 21 degrees” in perfect Queen’s English. Nope. From 2026 onwards, Google Gemini replaces the old Google Assistant in every Polestar from the 2 upwards. And that means you can just… talk. Like a human.
Just say “Hey Google, let’s talk” and the car joins in a real conversation. You can ponder out loud whether the quickest way to the coast is via Ghent or Antwerp, ask follow-up questions without the system having a nervous breakdown, or even flesh out that annoying work presentation while you’re cruising down the motorway. The AI understands context, remembers what you just said, and replies like there’s a reasonably bright mate sitting in the passenger seat. All while your hands stay on the wheel and your eyes on the road – because safety, obviously.
The best bit? It all lands over-the-air. No trip to the dealer, no need for a new car. Your current Polestar 2, 3, 4 or the upcoming 5 will simply wake up one morning in 2026 with the update installed. Starts with American English, then rolls out to more languages pretty sharpish. The boring stuff – picking music, checking the weather, adjusting the climate – still works, only now it’s a lot smoother.
