Mercedes-Benz has been conducting an unconventional yet groundbreaking crash test, which has recently garnered much attention. This test is unlike any other and features a heavyweight showdown between two electric vehicles – the formidable Mercedes EQS SUV and the compact yet substantial Mercedes EQA.

Euro NCAP, the European New Car Assessment Program, requires a frontal impact test using a 1,400-kilogram trolley equipped with an aluminum honeycomb barrier to mimic a collision with another vehicle's front end. In this unique test, Mercedes-Benz has truly gone the extra mile, opting to pit a 2.6-ton EQS SUV against a 2-ton EQA. Both vehicles collide at a speed of 56 km/h, surpassing the required 50 km/h. The results of this exceptional test are nothing short of astonishing.

Paul Dick, the head of Mercedes' crash test division, confidently asserts, "The vehicles may look battered, but the occupants remain safe." Remarkably, post-collision, the doors of both vehicles still open, a testament to the effectiveness of Mercedes' safety cell design. Inside the vehicles, crash dummies outfitted with 150 sensors collect data, indicating a "low probability of serious or fatal injuries.”

One might wonder about the safety of the electric vehicle batteries. Mercedes-Benz has that covered too. The battery protection system performs flawlessly, automatically shutting off and securing the power system upon impact. Markus Schäfer, the Chief Technology Officer at Mercedes, underlines the automaker's commitment to saving lives, stating, "Safeguarding human lives transcends the type of propulsion. The recent crash test involving two fully electric vehicles underscores this, proving that all our vehicles maintain an equally high safety standard, regardless of their underlying technology.”
