The Rise of Affordable Electric Cars: Skoda's New Contender
Introduction of Affordable Electric Options
Car manufacturers are faced with the challenge of producing affordable electric cars, and various brands are making strides in this direction. Citroën has already demonstrated what's possible with the ë-C3, while Fiat is set to launch its electric Panda soon.
Skoda's Innovation: The Epiq
Skoda is working on a small electric SUV called the Epiq, in collaboration with Cupra and Volkswagen. This vehicle, currently still a prototype, is being built in Pamplona, Spain, and is expected to hit showrooms in 2025, starting from €25,000.
Space and Smart Features
With a length of 4.1 meters, the Skoda Epiq offers ample space for five passengers and a generous 490-liter trunk. The interior features smart functionalities such as an induction charger for smartphones, convenient hooks for bags, and even a hidden storage space beneath the trunk floor.
Modern Solid Design
The design of the Epiq reflects Skoda's new design language, called Modern Solid. Notable features include the T-shaped light blocks at the front for daytime running lights and indicators, while the headlights are slightly lower. The brand name "Skoda" is now spelled out in full on both the hood and the tailgate.
Technological Innovations and Range
Although Skoda has not yet disclosed many technical details, it's expected that the Epiq could theoretically achieve a maximum range of 400 km. Additionally, the high-voltage battery supports bidirectional charging, meaning the car can also supply power to household appliances.
Future Outlook: Skoda's Electric Models
The Skoda Epiq is positioned as an ideal choice for customers taking their first steps into electric driving. This is just one of the six new electric models that Skoda will launch in the coming years. Later this year, for example, the new Elroq is expected, a slightly larger electric SUV comparable to the current Karoq.
