Volvo will stop making diesel passenger cars.

21 September 2023

Volvo has announced that they will build and deliver the last diesel cars in early 2024.

The brand is electrifying very quickly and had previously indicated that they would fully focus on making the brand greener.

They already said in 2017 that their ambition is to be completely CO2 neutral from 2030. This is officially their first major objective. And it will come soon, because the last diesel passenger car will roll off the production line at the beginning of 2024.

Volvo Car plans to sell only fully electric cars from 2030, a goal that will require major investments. That ambition hit a roadblock earlier this year when the company had to postpone production of its large electric SUV, the EX90, to the first half of next year due to problems with the software. The EX90 was initially expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.
